Alleged shoplifter arrested for assault on store security officer

Honolulu police arrested a 19-year-old Pearl City man who allegedly hit a store security officer who detained him on suspicion of shoplifting.

Police said the suspect was observed concealing items in the store last night at about 7:20 p.m. and was detained by a 30-year-old loss prevention officer. The 19-year-old allegedly hit the officer, but was detained by other store security personnel, who held him at the Sports Authority store in Waikele until police arrived.
