A 23-year-old man was critically injured yesterday after he was hit by a car while walking the wrong direction on Farrington Highway in Waianae.

Police said the man was intoxicated and walking south in a northbound lane when he was hit south of Pohakunui Avenue by a Mazda four-door about 3:20 a.m.

The 23-year-old man driving the vehicle and a female passenger were not injured. The pedestrian, of an unknown address, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with head and other injuries, police said.

Poor lighting may have been a factor in the crash, police said.
