Man charged in Wahiawa armed robbery; second suspect still at large

Police charged a 26-year-old man in connection with a gunpoint robbery in Wahiawa  and are looking for a second suspect.

JP Tupito, who has no local address, is expected to appear in District Court this morning. Prosecutors charged him yesterday with first degree robbery, car theft and firearms violations. Tupito was being held on $100,000 bail.

Police said Tupito is one of two suspects in a robbery that began at the Jack-in-the-Box restaurant in Wahiawa Saturday night.

Police said Tupito and another man in his 30s, were riding in a stolen vehicle when they saw a 36-year-old man walking through the Jack-in-the-Box parking lot.

The two suspects befriended the man and insisted he go for a ride, police said. They then drove the 36-year-old man to a secluded area, where Tupito allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money, police said.

The victim turned over his cash, wallet and car keys at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Police issued an all-points bulletin and located the two stolen vehicles and the two suspects.

Police arrested Tupito, but the other man fled. They also recovered the two allegedly stolen vehicles and a firearm.
