Flower nursery fire causes $140,000 damage

Big Island firefighters extinguished a fire at a commercial flower nursery in Pahoa that caused $140,000 damage to a greenhouse this morning.

The fire broke out at about 4:31 a.m. at 15-2567 Keaau-Pahoa Road in a 40 foot by 180 foot greenhouse with metal piping and fiberglass roofing. The fire also damaged machinery and flower growing supplies, firefighters said.

It was brought under control at 5:01 a.m. and extinguished at 5:30 a.m.

The greenhouse was owned by Alan Kuwahara. The cause is under investigation.
