A 25-year-old woman died in a single-car crash today near the Makakilo Drive overpass.
At about 7:41 a.m., the woman was traveling eastbound on the H-1 freeway in a gold-colored 2005 Isuzu. Police said the vehicle was in the center lane when it veered toward the right for no apparent reason and hit a guardrail about a half-mile east of the Makakilo Drive overpass.
The woman was ejected on the roadway. Police said the vehicle continued toward the left, striking the center concrete median twice before it came to a stop.
The woman, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken in critical condition with severe head injuries to Hawaii Medical Center West, where she died.
The driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Police said there was no indication that any other vehicle was involved in the crash.
This is the 41st traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 41 at the same time last year.
Police were re-directing vehicles to Farrington Highway, but re-opened the lanes at 9:40 a.m.
