A 67-year-old man allegedly placed a lit cigarette lighter to the face and arms of his 66-year-old girlfriend during an argument in their Nuuanu apartment yesterday, police said.

The argument escalated at 3:20 p.m. when the man lit a cigarette lighter and allegedly placed the hot metal and flame to his girlfriend’s face and arms, causing minor injuries, police said.

The man then allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to harm the woman, police said.

She calmed down her boyfriend, who then went into the bathroom, police said.

The woman then fled to a neighbor’s apartment and called police, who arrested her boyfriend for investigation of first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family or household member.
