Honolulu fire investigators say a Makiki fire that left eight people homeless was intentionally set.

The fire began at about 7:05 a.m. in a vacant second-story apartment in the five-unit structure at 910 Piikoi Street. The fire was largely confined to one unit but others suffered fire or water damage.

No one was injured and the fire was under control by 7:24 a.m. Damage to the building and its contents was set at $130,000.

There are no known suspects at this time, police said.

The Red Cross helped the displaced tenants find temporary shelter.
