CEDAR HILL, Texas — A Dallas-area man needed stitches after he says his new cell phone exploded and left him with a bloody head.

The incident happened Thursday morning as Aron Embry of Cedar Hill finished a call. He says he heard a loud "pop."

WFAA-TV reports Embry sought treatment at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches in his ear area, but says he did not suffer hearing loss. Embry had a bandage around his head following the incident.

The Motorola Droid smartphone, which Embry says he bought two days earlier, has a broken face. Blood was seen on the device.

Motorola Inc. on Thursday night issued a statement says its priority is customer safety and it is investigating the incident.
