After a brief chase through Pearlridge Center, a 13-year-old girl suspected of stealing a wallet was stopped by a bystander, but then punched the victim in the face to get away, police said.

The girl grabbed the wallet out of the hand of a 17-year-old girl walking at the shopping center and ran off on Monday, police said.

The victim chased her assailant through the common area of the mall until a bystander intervened and the girl dropped the wallet. After the older teen got her wallet back, the 13-year-old punched her and ran away, police said.

Officers found the girl nearby and arrested her on suspicion of second-degree theft and third-degree assault.
