David M. Louie, a trial lawyer and managing partner with the Honolulu law firm of Roeca Louie & Hiraoka, was nominated today by Gov. Neil Abercrombie to be Hawaii’s next attorney general.
Louie, 59, will take the next several weeks wrapping up issues with his firm and then will tackle legal issues ranging from transitioning to a state appointed Board of Education to unfunded federal mandates to Medicare and Medicaid to college football’s Bowl Championship Series, Abercrombie said.
At a press conference at Abercrombie’s capitol office today, Louie said he was "humbled, thankful and grateful" to be nominated by Abercrombie.
His selection requires confirmation by the state Senate.
Louie graduated from the University of California-Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law in 1977 and came to Hawaii 33 years ago.
He has served as president, vice president and director of the Hawaii State Bar Association and is currently vice chairman of the Hawaii Supreme Court Special Committee on Judicial Performance and the former chairman of the State of Hawaii Aloha Tower Development Corporation.
