HILO » Kona Blue Water Farms may have to pay a $6,750 fine for coral damage.

West Hawaii Today reported Tuesday that the Board of Land and Natural Resources is scheduled to vote on the fine at its Thursday meeting in Honolulu.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources documented 28 instances of coral damages it says came from a moored net pen in the Kawaihae Small Boat Harbor last year.

But Kona Blue Water President Neil Sims has said the pen wasn’t on coral but in three feet of water in the middle of the harbor.

Sims said Monday he accepts responsibility for the coral damage and is proposing a coral replanting program.
