Honolulu police say alcohol may be a factor in a critical accident early this morning in Mililani.

Police say a 25-year-old Mililani man was driving north on Kamehameha Highway just after 2 a.m. when his white, 2008 Nissan Frontier pickup truck crossed into the median and hit a utility pole.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the truck and suffered head injuries, police said. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.

The accident happened about one mile south of Lanikuhana Ave. Police said speed may also be a factor in the crash.

Police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions at Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Ave. for about two hours after the crash while traffic officers investigated the accident.
