Ching becomes Kaneshiro’s deputy

Armina Ching was recently sworn in as first deputy prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu.

Honolulu Prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro said Ching met every expectation as acting first deputy and that she deserved to get the job full time.

Kaneshiro said she initially wanted the position only on a temporary basis, but he said Ching agreed to the permanent change.

Ching said she believes in keeping the public safe and upholding the community’s faith in the justice system.

Ching has worked for the Honolulu Prosecutor’s Office for nearly 27 years. She is a graduate of Punahou School and Santa Clara University.

UH Foundation gets new fundraiser

The University of Hawaii Foundation recently hired the head of development for a Canadian university as its new vice president of development.

The foundation announced that Greg Willems was named to the post, where he will oversee fundraising and development operations.

Most recently, Willems was executive director of development at the University of British Columbia. Before that he was a senior director of development for the Texas A&M Foundation.

UH Foundation President and CEO Donna Vuchinich said Willems has significant experience working on high-level campaigns involving engineering, geophysics, Division I athletics and medicine.
