Senate confirms first of Abercrombie’s Cabinet

HONOLULU » The Hawaii Senate has confirmed the first two of Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s Cabinet appointees.

The Senate unanimously voted Monday to make Glenn Okimoto director of the state Department of Transportation and Alapaki Nahale-a director of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

The Senate hasn’t yet taken action on the appointments of two other Cabinet appointees who already received committee approval. They are Interim Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Director Kealii Lopez and Interim Department of Labor Director Dwight Takamine.

Sabrina McKenna’s nomination to serve on the Hawaii Supreme Court also is pending before the full Senate.
