Five people are homeless this morning following a fire in a two-story home near the the entrance to the Kahuku Motocross Park.

The fire broke out on the second floor of a 2-story building on Kamehameha Highway at about 1:06 a.m., said Capt. Terry Seelig, the fire department spokesman.

Four women live on the second floor. Three of the women were home at the time of the fire. The women and a resident manager who lives on the first floor escaped without injury, Seelig said.

Firefighters tried to protect a recording studio on the first floor by covering the equipment with salvage covers.

The fire was brought under control at 1:46 a.m. Damage is estimated at $350,000. The cause is under investigation.

Seelig said the residents of the home are staying with friends and relatives.
