Big Island police look for man in connection with jobs scam

Big Island police are searching for a 44-year-old man in connection with a scam of unemployed construction workers.

Police said the man offered construction jobs to people willing to travel to the mainland.

The man would then ask for money up front for union dues and air fare, then disappeared with the victims’ money without providing any jobs, police said.

The man, whose last known addresses are in Oregon and Honolulu, is described as 5-feet 9-inches tall, 260 pounds with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.

Police said he may be continuing to operate on the Big Island or on other islands.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 or 329-8181.

The case is featured on the latest edition of "Hawaii Island’s Most Wanted."
