VATICAN CITY >> The Vatican has sanctioned a Belgian bishop who resigned last year after admitting he had sexually abused his nephew, by saying he can no longer act as a priest in public.

The Vatican on Tuesday also said former Bruges Bishop Roger Vangheluwe may risk further sanctions after receiving psychological treatment.

The Vatican made the clarification after the Belgian Bishops’ Conference reported over the weekend that Vangheluwe had merely been sent outside Belgium for spiritual and psychological counseling.
