Police say robbers demanded ‘donation’ for drugs

Two men allegedly demanded a “donation'”for drugs and beat a 34-year-old man with beer bottles in a robbery in Kalihi yesterday afternoon, police said.

The man was on his way to work at about 5:50 p.m. when three men surrounded him and demanded a “donation,” police said. When the victim refused, police said two of the suspects allegedly assaulted him with beer bottles. The 34-year-old man fled, but a 26-year-old Kalihi man and a 21-year-old Kalihi man caught him and continued to assault him, police said. The suspects allegedly left  with a bag the victim was carrying. But police said the victim gave chase and caught the 21-year-old man as police arrived.

Officers located the second man and both were arrested on Linapuni Street.
