Oahu natural disaster preparation workshop held today

Government agencies plan to hold a workshop in Honolulu today to help people prepare for natural disasters.

The half-day session is expected to address evacuation planning and warnings for tsunami and severe weather. Flood and coastal inundation mapping are also on the agenda.

Officials from the city’s emergency management department, the National Weather Service, and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center are due to speak.

The Natural Hazard Community Preparedness Workshop is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Mission Memorial Auditorium at 550 S. King Street.

The city, the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program, and the Sea Grant Coastal Storms Program are co-sponsoring the workshop.
