A tourist on Kauai found a harmless smoke grenade at the north end of Kealia Beach and reported it to a lifeguard Saturday morning.

Kauai police officers determined that the smoke grenade was likely spent due to the missing pin and a hole on the bottom of the canister, county officials said.

Explosive specialist Jerry Booth from the Transportation Security Administration responded to the scene and confirmed that the grenade had been spent and rendered harmless.

Booth plans to use the grenade as a training aid for TSA employees, county officials said.
