University of Hawaii ranked 39th in pre-season poll

Ferd Lewis

The University of Hawaii football team received eight points in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll announced today.

The Warriors, who are coming off a 10-4 finish in 2010, ranked 39th for points received, the most of any Western Athletic Conference team.

UH has not been ranked in the Top 25 in the preseason since 2007, its Sugar Bowl year.

Oklahoma, Alabama, Oregon, Louisiana State and Florida State were the top five in voting by a panel of coaches. Boise State is No. 7.

UH has no preseason Top 25 opponents on its schedule and the Warriors were listed ahead of the three foes who received votes, Brigham Young (5 points), Washington (3) and Nevada (1).

Four coaches from the WAC were among the 59 voting. UH’s Greg McMackin was not one of them.
