Army investigating death of Schofield soldier in Afghanistan

The Army is investigating the death of a Schofield Barracks soldier in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced today.

Spc. Jinsu Lee 34, of Chatsworth, Calif., died Friday in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of a non-battle related injury, the DOD said.

 Lee was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment (Wolfhounds), 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Spc. Lee’s awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

Posthumous awards: Afghanistan Campaign Service Medal with Star, Army Good Conduct Medal and Army Overseas Service Ribbon.

This was Spc. Lee’s 1st deployment overseas. Spc. Lee enlisted in the U.S. Army August 5, 2009 as a Unit Supply Specialist.

He was married with 3 daughters.
