Police arrested an alleged shoplifter who tried to "return" merchandise for store credit she had placed in a cart while at a home improvement store Wednesday, police said.

Police arrested  the 58-year-old Kalihi woman on suspicion of second-degree theft at The Home Depot, located at 421 Alakawa St.

The woman entered the store and placed items in her cart worth more than $300, police said. She then went to the customer service counter and allegedly asked for store credit in exchange for the unpaid items. The store clerk put the refund on a store credit card, police said.

Loss prevention officers were conducting surveillance on the woman and caught her as she left the store, police said.
