Former Louisiana Tech head coach Kerry Rupp has been officially hired as the Hawaii men’s basketball director of operations, UH coach Gib Arnold announced on Monday.

Rupp, who went 57-69 in four years at LaTech, won’t have full capacity as an assistant coach but will oversee behind-the-scenes duties such as travel logistics. He fills the position vacated by Scott Fisher, who was promoted to full assistant.

In 2009-10 the Bulldogs went 24-11 and qualified for the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. But Rupp was fired after his team went 12-20 last season, including a 2-14 mark in the Western Athletic Conference.

Arnold now has two former Division I head coaches on his staff. Former Chicago State coach Benjy Taylor is Arnold’s associate head coach.
