The Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 74-year-old woman who died Wednesday following a mo-ped accident as Eufemia Miranda, of Waipahu.

Miranda was a passenger on a mo-ped that crashed on Hoaeae Street just south of Honowai Street in Waipahu at about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the 78-year-old man driving the blue mo-ped apparently lost control of the mo-ped while traveling south on Hoaeae Street. Paramedics took Miranda to the Queen’s Medical Center with critical head injuries. She died at 7:19 p.m., police said.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. Neither the man nor woman were wearing helmets, police said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine her exact cause of death.

This was the second traffic fatality of the year.
