Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai, of Food Network fame, will open Sakai of Hawaii, a cafe-style restaurant, at DFS Galleria Waikiki.

It will be the first restaurant venture outside Japan for Sakai, who gained fame as the Iron Chef of French cuisine during the 1990s. Taping of the series ended in 1999, by which time he was running four restaurants in Japan and had launched a line of packaged baked goods that were sold in department stores, according to a 2003 interview with the Star-Bulletin.

Details of the new restaurant will be announced at a news conference Wednesday.
