H-1 westbound from Vineyard to Palama to be closed tonight

All westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway from the Vineyard Boulevard off-ramp (Exit 22) to the Palama Street off-ramp (Exit 20C) will be closed from 10:30 p.m. today to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to allow workers to replace an outdated electronic message board mounted on the Liliha Street overpass.

Work will begin with two left-lane closures starting at 9 p.m., with the full closures beginning at 10:30 p.m., the state Department of Transportation announced.

During full closure hours, westbound traffic will be detoured to Vineyard Boulevard to re-enter the H-1 Freeway from the Halona Street on-ramp.

All eastbound lanes will remain open.

The following H-1 Freeway ramps will also be closed during the full closure hours:

>> Punchbowl Street on-ramp: Westbound motorists should use Vineyard Boulevard to the next available on-ramp at Halona Street. Kailua-bound motorists should use Vineyard Boulevard and turn right onto Pali Highway northbound.

>> Pali Highway off-ramp (Exit 21B): Kailua-bound motorists should use Vineyard Boulevard and turn right onto Pali Highway northbound.

>> School Street off-ramp (Exit 21A): Motorists wishing to access North School Street should proceed west on Vineyard Boulevard, turn right onto Nuuanu Avenue and turn left to North School Street.

>> North School Street on-ramp: Westbound motorists on School Street should continue west, turn left onto Liliha Street, turn right onto Vineyard Boulevard and proceed to the next available on-ramp at Halona Street.

Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through these areas, to use alternate routes and allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.
