The state Legislature is once again considering whether to allow legalized gambling on Hawaiian home lands.

The House Committee on Hawaiian Affairs has put the matter on its agenda today.

House Bill 2379 would give the Hawaiian Homes Commission the authority to decide whether to allow gaming operations on homestead property.

The issue has come up in prior years, along with several other legalized gambling proposals currently before the Legislature.

This particular measure would allow the commission to decide whether to permit development of gaming operations on Hawaiian home lands. The commission then would have the option authorize gaming, which could include bingo, lotteries, casino games and other forms of gambling.

Hawaii and Utah are the only two states that don’t allow gambling.
