No tsunami generated by earthquake near Vanuatu
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says no destructive tsunami was generated by a strong earthquake near the Vanuatu Islands this morning based on the earthquake magnitude, locaition and historical tsunami records.
The earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 struck at 3:35 a.m. Hawaii time about 77 miles west of Port Villa, Efate, Vanuate at a depth of 1.7 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey .
