Nokell brings her wearable art to Oahu

Terry Nokell, also known as The Logger’s Daughter, returns to Hawaii this weekend with trunk shows from Honolulu to Haleiwa.

The Pacific Northwest artist will be showing a mix of her one-of-a-kind jackets, skirts, jewelry, fingerless gloves and other wearable art.

Her first appearance will be during First Friday at Louis Pohl Gallery, 1142 Bethel St., from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Call 521-1812.

Then she’ll be at the LMS Boutique at 2909 Lowrey Ave. in Manoa from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call 988-4575.

And Sunday she’ll be at Silver Moon Emporium, North Shore Marketplace, from 1 to 3 p.m. Call 637-7710.

Honor American Heart Month at Macy’s

Macy’s is inviting all to “Go Red for Women” to commemorate American Heart Month in February. The retailer is hosting a Wear Red Sale through Sunday, with an exclusive collection of red dresses from Alfani, Charter Club and I.N.C. designed to benefit the cause. They’ll be in stores in time for National Wear Red Day on Friday.

Supporters of the movement can opt to purchase a $2 Go Red for Women red dress lapel pin at any Macy’s store. All pin sales will directly benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement.

As a founding national sponsor of the movement, Macy’s has raised more than $28 million for Go Red in the fight against heart disease.

According to AHA, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. Eight million women in the United States are living with heart disease, yet only 1 in 6 believes heart disease is her greatest health threat.

Admire Chanel jewels at Waikiki store

Chanel Waikiki is hosting an exhibition of couture jewelry from its “Contrastes” collection, which combines the power of black with the purity of white, in combinations of diamonds, moonstones and opals that also mix sparkle with iridescence.

Victoria’s Secret glams up sportswear

With the Super Bowl taking place this weekend, Victoria’s Secret is thinking sporty. The company is introducing its new “Incredible” sports bra, the VSX Sexy Sport, which offers cushioned support, concealed wire technology, no-show cups and breathable four-way stretch, moisture-wicking fabric to allow comfort in movement. The bra costs $48.50.

And, to promote fitness, VS is inviting fans to visit facebook.com/VSX to share their fitness commitment goals for 2012 for an opportunity to win prizes, including a $1,000 shopping spree.

Quilters invited to shop-hop on Big Isle

Quilt lovers better book a February flight for the Big Island’s fourth annual Quilt Shop Hop. During February eight shops are participating in the circle-island quilt trek, on which shop-hoppers can pick up their custom quilt block kits and have a “passport” stamped.

This year’s theme is tropical flowers, so each store will have a different flower on its 10-by-10-inch quilt block to collect and complete the one-of-a-kind 2012 Big Island Shop Hop quilt. The quilt block patterns are free, or available with fabric as a kit for $6. The background fabric for each block is Hoffman 1895, Seagrass, and the fabric kit is free for those who purchase $35 or more in merchandise from a single shop. Finishing kits will be available for purchase as well.

Participants can start their tour at any of the venues along the route, with maps and passports (one per family) available at each location. Or, join one of two bus tours, which will have games and activities along the way.

The Kona-to-Hilo bus tour is Feb. 11, departing from Quilt Passions at 6:30 a.m. The cost is $65. The bus will stop in Hilo for lunch (on your own). Call Quilt Passions at 329-7475.

The Hilo-to-Kona bus tour takes place Feb. 18, departing from the Hilo bus station (on the bayfront) in the morning (time TBA). The cost is $50, including lunch. Sign up by calling Mary at Kilauea Kreations, 961-1100. This tour also includes a stop at the Society for Kona’s Education and Arts quilt and fiber arts show, “Fire and Ice.”

Shop-hoppers who complete their passports are eligible for prize drawings that include $25 gift certificates and fabric.

Benefit aimed at helping local designer stay afloat

Katrina Langford will present her 2012 collection during a fundraising event from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Thirtyninehotel, for ages 21 and older.

Admission is free, with free pupu before 9 p.m.

The designer is aiming to raise funds via Kickstarter.com to help her keep her business in Hawaii.
