Thief swipes truck from gas station
Police were looking for a man who stole a truck from a customer at the Chevron gas station Friday near Kahala Mall.
The man got into a truck parked at a gas pump with the keys in the ignition and drove off before the truck’s owner could stop him, said Kinis Eria, a Chevron cashier who witnessed the theft.
She said the thief was in the store only moments earlier, lingering a bit too long before eventually buying a drink and a candy bar. The thief walked outside and got into the truck while the truck’s owner was in line in the store.
The owner cautiously went out to his vehicle as if he thought the man was making a mistake, Eria said, but had to jump out of the way as the driver took off.
He ran after his white vehicle but couldn’t stop the man.
Police opened an attempted murder and auto theft case.
