A woman was killed and a man injured after a car ran a red light and struck them along the shoulder of Farrington Highway in Honokai Hale last night.
Police said a motorist driving a green Chevy Suburban was traveling westbound at the Laaloa Street intersection near Kamokila Community Park at about 9:54 p.m. when she failed to stop for a red light, swerved to avoid a vehicle stopped in front of her, and struck the two pedestrians as they were attempting to cross the street.
The female pedestrian, 56, was taken to Pali Momi Medical Center in critical condition where she was pronounced dead.
The male pedestrian, also in his 50s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition but is considered stable, police said.
Police believe the victims, who were married, got off the bus and were headed home in Honokai Hale when they were struck by the Suburban.
The motorist, of Waianae, was not injured. Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The woman’s death was the 55th on Oahu roads so far this year. There were 47 at this time in 2011.
