Fire investigators look into cause of Waianae brushfire

Nearly 30 acres were destroyed by a brush fire that at Mailiili Road in Waianae, which took 50 firefighters until 3 Monday morning to contain.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No structures were threatened by the brush fire, which was reported at 11:45 p.m. Sunday near the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. Much of the burned acreage was in inaccessible areas.

The mauka lane along Farrington Highway at Mailiili Road heading in the westbound direction was closed until 4 a.m. to accommodate the 12 fire companies that responded to the blaze.
