Hawaii junior hitter Emily Hartong was named to the AVCA All-America first team today in conjunction with the women’s volleyball final four in Louisville, Ky.

Hartong, a second-team All-American selection last year, was one of 14 players honored on the first team. Rainbow Wahine junior setter Mita Uiato was named honorable mention.

Hartong was the Big West Conference player of the year this season and went on to all-region honors.  She also was the first UH player since 2006 to be named AVCA national player of the week in October.

Hartong led the Big West with a 4.57 kill average and 5.22 points per set average, ranking her in the top 10 nationally in both categories. She had career-best 33-kill performance at Long Beach State (Oct. 26).

Uiato, also named to the all-region team earlier this month, was second in the Big West in assists (10.26 average).

Hartong will receive her All-American award at Friday’s banquet.
