Keaka Martin, the 31-year-old Hilo man accused of shooting two police officers Jan. 2 in Hilo, remained hospitalized due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Martin was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, reckless endangering and weapons charges, and was last reported in critical condition. His current condition was not available.

The two officers, one shot in the left calf and right heel, the other in the thigh, were released from the hospital over the weekend.
