Hawaii County fire personnel suspended their search today for a missing Hawaii island man in waters off Kehena Beach in Lower Puna.

Today was the third and final day of the search by the Fire Department, which used a rescue company, divers and a helicopter.

Police said Eric T. Dietz, 29, also known as “Eroz” and “Arrows,” has no permanent address, and was last seen 2:40 p.m. Sunday.

Fire officials said Dietz had been swept into rough waters, and a high surf advisory had been in effect at the time.

A bodyboarder had gotten within reach of Dietz, but lost sight of him when he went underwater about 100 yards offshore, fire and police officials said.

The search began about 3 p.m. Sunday. The Coast Guard suspended its operations at 6 p.m. Monday.
