Hawaii island police are waiting for the results of an autopsy conducted Friday on one of two bodies discovered off Stainback Highway this week.
The bodies were found during a search for 44-year-old Hawaiian Acres resident Dante Peter Gilman, who police say was murdered last month by two cousins from Kurtistown.
According to court documents, a security surveillance system in Gilman’s home captured video of his slaying at the hands of 30-year-old Claude Krause and 19-year-old Kawena Krause. Both men have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, robbery, burglary and theft. A third person present at the time of the killing has not been identified by police.
On Jan. 18, police found a badly decomposed body off Stainback Highway. The body was later identified as that of 38-year-old Shayne Kobayashi of Pahoa, who had not been seen since Dec. 11. On Tuesday, police acting on an anonymous tip found the second body about two miles from where Kobayashi was discovered.
Kobayashi, a key witness in the Dana Ireland murder case, had an extensive criminal history that included 23 convictions. He was serving a 10-year sentence for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl when he cut a deal in 1999 to testify against Frank Pauline, one of three men convicted for kidnapping, raping and murdering Ireland. He was returned to prison in 2001 after violating the terms of his parole but escaped a year later. He was subsequently sentenced to five years for the escape.
