The mother of a Kaneohe man missing for 16 years is appealing to anyone who has information about her son to come forward.

Police said they have received new information on the case and are asking for the public’s help in finding out what happened to Rick Calhau, who was last seen by his wife on Nov. 18, 1996.

Calhau, then 29, left his Kaneohe home to visit a friend in Kalihi. His brown 1992 Ford pickup truck was found abandoned in front of Our Savior Lutheran Church near the intersection of Koauka Street and Moanalua Road.

Speaking to reporters today, Calhau’s mother, Patricia, said she has “no idea” what happened to her son but she’s has come to accept that he is likely dead. She’s hopeful that someone will  help answer the mystery that has haunted her family for 16 years.

“Please come forward and give us a hand,” she said.

Police have not disclosed what new information they have about the case.
