2 campers robbed at knifepoint in Hamakua Coast park

Hawaii County police are investigating a reported knifepoint robbery at a Hamakua Coast park early this morning.

At 4:54 a.m., police received a report that a 29-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were camping at the Kolekole Beach Park when they were awakened by a male suspect who entered their tent and threatened them with a knife before taking several of their possessions. The suspect also demanded the keys to a rental vehicle parked nearby. The suspect drove away in the white 2012 Ford Mustang coupe, which was found abandoned in the upper Wainaku area.

The suspect was described as  being in his mid 20s, about 5-feet 8-inches tall, weighing 150-160 pounds, fair complexion and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket or hoodie, either a beanie or a hood, and possibly khaki colored pants.
