A video posted by Hawaii shark conservationist Ocean Ramsey is receiving media attention around the world.

In the video, titled “A Blonde and a Great White Shark” and released Feb. 14 on Youtube, Ramsey is seen swimming intimately with a great white shark. She gently strokes the massive sea animal, which allows her to hitch a ride on its dorsal fin.

“This year on Valentine’s Day, celebrate the love we have for the natural world around us,” the description of the video reads.

Ramsey reflected in a blog post on the shark conservation awareness website waterinspired.com that the encounter was posted to advocate for shark conservation.

“As the Sengalese environmentalist Baba Dioum said, ‘In the end people will only protect what they love, and only love what they understand,” Ramsey wrote. “I hope that by sharing my experiences with sharks I might inspire others to take action and help protect these amazing creatures before it’s too late.”
