Landslide prompts closure of Aihualama Trail in Manoa

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed the Aihualama Trail on the upper west side of Manoa Valley because of a landslide that removed a large portion of the trail.

The trail is impassable and hikers would be exposed to falling rocks and a hazardous cliff. “It was necessary to close the area due to public safety concerns,” said William J. Aila Jr., DLNR chairman.

Staff members of DLNR’s Na Ala Hele Trail and Access Program staff discovered the damage to the trail on Thursday.28 Emergency closure signs have been installed.
