Authorities have called off their search for a Singaporean man who was swept out to sea from a remote and rocky coastline on Kauai.

The Kauai Fire Department said Wednesday 62-year-old Phua Chuan Chin wasn’t found after a three-day search by lifeguards, firefighters, police and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Chin and another male were swept into the water Monday when a large wave hit as they were walking along Kalihiwai Point.

The other man swam to the rocks and was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

A high surf advisory was posted at the time for all north and west facing shores of Kauai. The advisory warned of strong breaking waves and pounding shorelines.

Chin is the ninth person to drown in Kauai waters this year.
