Police this morning arrested the 53-year-old pickup truck driver who allegedly struck and killed an 88-year-old Kapahulu man on Friday.

The victim, Hiroaki Shihara, was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died a short time later of multiple injuries, police said.

The truck driver struck Shihara at 12:30 p.m. Friday as he crossed Kapahulu Avenue in a marked crosswalk near the intersection of Herbert Street.

Shihara lived on Herbert Street near the accident scene.

Family and friends said he often caught the bus and may have been heading toward the bus stop on the Ewa side of Kapahulu.

The driver was released a short time later and has not been charged.
