Fire personnel rescued two men in their early 20s who got caught on the ridge trail above Waimanalo after dark Friday.

Fire Capt. Chris Ah Mook Sang said Waimanalo residents saw the flashing lights of the hikers about halfway up the mountain and called fire dispatch at 7:35 p.m.

Ah Mook Sang said the hikers were signaling for help with their flashlights, and “they didn’t know exactly where they were.”

A fire helicopter was used to pick up the two men and they were dropped off at Blanche Pope Elementary School.

No one was injured.
