The Ala Moana studios of KHON-TV as final preparations of their then-new newsroom set were underway. Providence, R.I.-based LIN TV Corp. said today it has completed its acquisition of the station along with stations in seven other cities.

Kirk Matthews and Trini Kaopuiki bid "aloha" to viewers this morning as they move to other news shows on KHON-TV.

Current morning show hosts Olena Heu, Jai Cunningham and Taizo Braden will be joined by Ron Mizutani and weather forecaster Kanoe Gibson come Monday morning.

Mizutani just returned to television a second time after a stint in public relations.

Matthews will be a reporter for weekday newscasts, as is Manolo Morales, who also was recently reassigned from morning show duties causing an uproar among viewers who miss his reports from isle restaurant kitchens.

Kaopuiki will move to weekend weather anchor and also do some reporting, according to KHON Vice President and General Manager Kristina Lockwood.
