Nine people, including five children, were displaced when a fire destroyed a Kaneohe home this morning.

Emergency Medical Services said that two adults — a man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s — were taken in serious condition to the hospital. Three of the family’s five children — two boys and one girl –were at home and were treated at the scene, EMS reported.

The fire was reported at 9:08 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the home on the 46-000 block of Aeloa Street, they found half of the single-story building fully engulfed, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

The fire was brought under control 20 minutes later.

The fire is believed to have started in the rear bedroom of the three-bedroom home. There were another two bedrooms in an addition to the house that were damaged.

Damage to the structure and contents was estimated to be $375,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
