Hikers and rescue personnel helped a 62-year-old Honolulu man who had become lost while hiking on the Mauna Loa access road trail Monday afternoon, the Hawaii County Fore Department said.

Responders treated the man for cold weather exposure, hypothermia and dehydration and took him to Hilo Medical Center.

Two hikers found the man about two miles from the weather station, the fire department said. Personnel from the county and Pohakuloa Training Area fire department responded about 5:20 p.m. and helped the man down the mountain.
