Afternoon showers likely again for Oahu

Expect more afternoon showers today and Friday, National Weather Service forecasters predict. However, the showers shouldn’t be as heavy as the ones earlier this week.

Light winds and daytime heating are expected to cause rain clouds to build up over interior and mountain sections of the islands.

Forecasters say there’s a 50 percent chance of rain over Honolulu this afternoon.

Trade winds should return sometime this weekend, bringing an end to the muggy weather and afternoon showers over Oahu. But the northeast winds could bring the usual windward and mauka showers in the mornings.

Kauai and Oahu got most of the rain on Wednesday. More than 2.5 inches fell on Lihue in the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. About 2.2 inches fell on Kapahi.

On Oahu, 2.6 inches fell on Kahana. More than 2.3 inches fell at Schofield and 1.9 inches was recorded at Palehua, above Makakilo.
