Maui gets federal grant for farm workers

Wailuku-based Maui Economic Opportunity Inc. has been awarded a $312,663 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help migrant and seasonal farm workers.

The grant, awarded under the National Farmworker Jobs Program, will help Maui Economic Opportunity work to improve economic opportunities and combat chronic unemployment and underemployment for migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families, according to a DOL statement.

The grant, announced this morning, is among $9.1 million awarded to seven organizations around the country.
