MIRAMAR, Fla. >> A teen watching NBA Finals postgame coverage in South Florida was hit by what police believe was celebratory gunfire.

Fifteen-year-old Brandon Reid says he was watching Miami Heat players celebrate their world championship on Thursday when a bullet came through his mother’s sliding glass door and hit him in the head.

Police tell The Sun Sentinel that they think the bullet was from celebratory gunfire prompted by the Heat’s win. Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues says police received multiple calls about shots fired in the area and that it doesn’t appear Reid was targeted.

Reid is from the Atlanta area and was visiting his mother in South Florida. Reid told a news conference on Saturday that it felt like a rock hit him. The teen is expected to recover.
